Colon Cancer June, 2000

Two weeks ago today, My husband and I arrived in Reno, Nevada. I was so ill I have no memory of the trip, which is approximately 600 miles. To go back a bit and pick up the beginning of the story: In March of the year I was diagnosed with colon cancer that had metastasized to the liver. At that point I had a few signs of problems- but overall, felt fine . After my diagnosis I underwent some chemo- therapy, which almost killed me. Then I had colon surgery to remove the tumor in the colon. They felt they had removed all the cancer in the colon but could not surgically remove the liver tumors due to their size. My prognosis was certainly poor and there was no intentions of aggressively treating the liver. Their answer was to continue chemo- therapy on an on- going basis, weekly with no ending date. I had three more treatments of chemo. After the third treatment it all caught up with me and I went down (as I explained earlier) very quickly. I had been considering Dr. Minton's options for about a week- ten days. When I began to get so sick my mind was quickly convinced that my real option and hope for any decent quality of life was with Dr. Minton.

It was an excellent choice! Dr. Minton and his staff are some of the very finest people I know. Today, two weeks after arriving here in Reno, I am feeling as well as I have ever felt in my life. I am certain the cancer has backed off a bit- there is just no other explanation for my state of health- mentally and physically at this point.

I'm telling all of my friends, co- workers and acquaintances about the terrific things you are doing for my mother, Z.A.K. Thank you for giving her back some quality of life for however long however long God determines she will be with us. I hope some day that I can thank you in person.
