September 2003 MDS Myelodysplastic Syndrome

Dear Doctor,

I want to thank you for the miracle of being able to live without a transfusion every week and eventually being able to actually recover from this disease all together. I saw three Oncologists/ Hemotologists which specialize in blood diseases and two told me I had six months to two years to live, and the third dragged me on for three months while deciding the technical name of my particular disease. While he was looking for the particular medical term, he was letting me slowly die as I was getting sicker and sicker, receiving a blood transfusion a week and weekly injections that were not helping me to make blood as they were designed because my body was not being supported with nutrients. They finally coined my condition "MDS" (Myelodysplastic syndrome) and told me that my bone marrow would never make blood again and that I should get my "affairs in order."

Although the Oncologists/Hemotologists I had been seeing never cared to find out the root of my symptoms and attempt to dissolve the cause, Doctor, you did just that. You knew my body was shutting down for a reason and once that problem was found and corrected, I could be healed. You explained that we needed to rebuild my body in a particular order and compared it to the steps in building a house. Unlike the typical doctor that uses fancy terminology, you broke it down so simply that even a child could comprehend.

Besides the miracle that my body received at your clinic, I felt that I was in the hands of a trusted friend. Your staff also was so kind and compassionate that we truly enjoyed just spending time in your clinic. If it was not for your clinic and the incredible care and love I received, I would only have a few months left to live.
